Our Mission:
Hope for Youth Alliance exists to heal and transform the lives of youth through meaningful mentoring relationships.
Our Vision:
Our vision is to strengthen caring adults to have meaningful mentoring relationships with children and youth in Northern New Mexico. Hope for Youth Alliance Mentoring is lifestyle based and develops long-lasting, trusting, and positive relationships that give youth hope, and purpose. HYA intervenes in the life of youth to help youth make better and wiser decisions academically, emotionally, and spiritually. To build mentoring relationships with 300 at-risk youth by 2010.
Core Values:
Relational- Children and youth are the product of whom they have been connected to and disconnected from. HYA mentors are committed to develop long- term trusting relationships therefore, creating direct, long-lasting effect and positive influence on the lives of young people. HYA Mentor relationships are meaningful, life-style based, and non-programmatic.
Resilience -
Leadership - Hope for Youth Alliance is committed to replacing the popular myth that “young people are the future” with the truth that they are “the leaders of today who hold the future.” We are committed to indigenous leadership development of our youth, empowering them to excel in their plans and purpose. HYA equips youth to lead and to be a positive influence in their neighborhoods, classrooms, and in their families.
Collaborative- No one organization can reach and meet all the needs of the children, youth, and families, of our communities. Our strategy is to create collaborative efforts with neighboring churches, youth groups, businesses, schools, community agencies, faith based organizations locally, and nationally.
Holistic- HYA Mentors who journey with youth help youth heal, find hope, make better and wiser decisions academically, emotionally, spiritually.
Christ Centered - HYA Mentors are committed to and promote the Lordship of Christ. Our Mentors expose hurting children and youth to consider God’s role and purpose for their life in a non coercive way. Research studies have shown that helping delinquent youth find faith increases purpose and meaning in their lives. The results; reducing recidivism rates from a continued life of crime, and juvenile delinquency.
Our Strategies:
* Community Based Mentoring- Mentors make a 1 year commitment to intervene in the lives of at-risk youth, meet a minimum of 8 hours per-month and participate in 2 community service project per-year. Youth are referred to HYA by parents, juvenile justice system, school teachers, and concerned community leaders.
* Mentor Support and Specialized Resources- HYA believes its vital for us to provide ongoing support, counsel, and encouragement for HYA Mentors. Specialized resources will be available through the website, book-lists, newsletters, and articles relevant to youth mentoring, to ensure that every Mentor has continued support and tools to make our mentor matches a success.
* Youth We Serve- HYA seeks to serve and provide at-risk youth who request a mentor on their own initiative: children and youth in Northern New Mexico ages 9-19 who are in juvenile justice system, foster care, teen moms, and children of incarcerated parents.
* Angel Tree Mentoring/Christmas- When mom or dad is in prison, its the children who do hard time. In partnership with Prison Fellowships Angel Tree Program, Hope for Youth Alliance brings the joy of Christmas to the children of incarcerated parents in Northern New Mexico by hosting a annual Christmas Party to deliver gifts to children. But Angel Tree doesn’t end with Christmas. That first Christmas connection can be the beginning of a rewarding ongoing mentor relationship with these children and their families.
